Milky Oats are a type of Common Oat that is often used as a tea. Dry Milky Oat Tops are harvested from Oat plants during the seed’s “milk-stage”. During this time the oats are at their peak flavor and very tasty! The flavor of Milky Oats tea is grassy with a sweet cereal flavor, like milk you’ve eaten the cereal out of. Pairs well with a dash of cream and honey for a relaxing and rich tea.
Recipe: Milky Oats Tea
Add 2 heaping Tablespoons of Dry Milky Oats to 4 cups of water in a small pot. Heat on the stove over a low flame to slowly bring the tea up to a simmer. When simmering begins, turn off the flame and cover with a lid. Let steep another 10 minutes, or until the tea becomes cool enough to drink. Strain out the oats (DO NOT SWALLOW!) and serve with your favorite cream and sweetener, or ala carte! Oats have a natural sweetness and are great as a pure tea.
